BELLINGHAM, Wash. — SteelFiber graphite iron shafts, designed and manufactured by Aerotech Golf, helped the United States team seal the victory at the Bridgestone America’s Golf Cup played at Club Campestre golf course in Mexico City. The win was the second consecutive victory for SteelFiber shafts in international competition.
The two-man U.S. team chalked up an 11-under par in the first round that included seven birdies, two eagles and no bogeys to take the lead, and they followed up that performance with an even better 15-under in the second round. One of the winning Americans — a seven-time PGA TOUR champion and the 2012 Players Championship winner — played SteelFiber i95 graphite shafts in his Bridgestone J15 irons. In addition to the win, SteelFiber i95 and i80 graphite shafts collected three more Top 10 finishes on the LPGA Tour.
“The desire to maximize player performance in golf knows no national borders, so we’re very excited to see SteelFiber score two international victories in two straight weeks,” says Chris Hilleary, president of Aerotech Golf. “SteelFiber graphite shafts represent true game-changing innovation that gives greater vibration dampening and reduces player fatigue, while simultaneously providing the consistency, accuracy and stability that players have traditionally attributed to steel shafts.”
SteelFiber shafts provide superior performance through innovative composite engineering that combines a high-modulus graphite core with 59 miles of steel fiber lacing the shaft surface. The shaft’s graphite core provides vibration dampening, increased clubhead speed and maximum distance, while the steel fibers produce optimum weighting for a solid feel at impact and add stability and control for pinpoint accuracy.
Last year, SteelFiber shafts delivered seven wins — three on the PGA Tour and two each on the Champions and LPGA Tours. The previous tour season was equally successful with SteelFiber chalking up five wins on the PGA TOUR and two more on the Champions Tour. Players with SteelFiber shafts routinely rank high on the PGA Money List, Official World Golf Rankings and the FedEx Cup Season Points. In 2013, for example, SteelFiber players ranked No. 2 and No. 3 in the FedEx Cup Season Points and ended overall as No. 3 and No. 5 on the PGA Money List.
